The United States' march toward their three-peat World Cup championship continues on Wednesday night.
The side faces off against the Netherlands in a match that's technically Thursday afternoon in host country New Zealand.
Sophia Smith powered the Stars and Stripes in their opening game, debuting with a brace in a 3-0 victory over Vietnam. It was a less impressive start to the tournament than their 13-0 entrance in 2019, but with many new faces, the current team has room to grow into its greatness.
This second game of Group E play will be a rematch of the 2019 World Cup final, when the USWNT beat the Dutch 2-0. The Netherlands, a fellow consistent power player, also won their first game of group play, beating Portugal 1-0.
